Mission Critical website

What I found useful in this website was the concepts of supporting you conclusions with premises and arguments. This helped me a lot because it showed me how important it was to have good support and evidence of a claim or argument. Without this strong support, your argument can be countered easily or even ignored.

This also helped me in a writing stand point. My whole life I was never a good writer. I would always make claims and assume the readers of my essays would understand what I was writing about. Since I learned from this website, I am able to make better decisions when writing an essay and making better arguments that can support my main topic or claim.

Another thing that I learned from these concepts and support were the types of support. I learned that by using a well known authority or even a well known fact, can help my claim or arguments even more.

  1. This is a great comment. I forget which part of the site was talking about it, but it talked about how the argument must lead to the conclusion. The more directly it leads, the better the argument. And if the argument only leaves on conclusion, you still need to say what it is! This seems like common sense, but it certainly isn't common.

The strength of the support for your argument can vary not only by type but by source - who would you ask about soccer? Better not be me. The more recognized the expert you have, the stronger the support. The more different (trusted) places you can find the same viewpoint, the stronger your argument. But sometimes, it all comes down to how you present it.

I think you may underestimate yourself and overestimate others. The points you make above are very well thought out.

  2. I like how you mentioned in the mission critical website of how the conclusion should have an agrument and a premise. Without the use of the argument and the premise, the conclusion is pointless and has no support in any event. After looking in the website, I found that this also helps my writing in many different ways. It helps my organization and helps develope my writing skills in many different ways. This type of writing will continue to help me in my arguments for future writing classes and develope my knowledge with the english language.

  3. I like this post. I never really realized that we're supposed to make valid premises for our conclusions when it comes to arguments. I think a lot of people made the same mistake as you have in the past thinking that the audience will understand the claim and premises you're writing about. After reading this post, I never thought about using well known authority in order to support my argument/conclusion stronger. I found that if use well known sources for arguments, a lot of people can't really argue back because you have all the proof right there and they can't argue against it.
