Just because my cat purrrs, that does not mean that it is lazy. These types of claims can give people a wider range of thinking of what kind of claim they are stating. Also, when it comes to general claims, the claim that the other person states can be interpreted in multiple ways.
For example: Brothers who eat alot are fat. My brother eats a lot so he is fat. This may be true but on the other hand, what if some other person's brother eats a lot but is not fat? Just because they eat a lot does not mean that they are necessarily large in size.
I like how you first defined what a general claim and directly. You made it straight to the point which made it easier to follow.
ReplyDeleteI thought your first example on all cats purring was great because you explained how although it may look like a valid claim it is not.
Learning on general claims and now being more aware of them makes me feel they are deceiving in a way. I thought it was really good that you also explained and went more into depth on explaining why your cat purrrs, how that can be interpreted in different/multiple ways.
The other example on brothers being fat was also an excellent choice because that general claim, I have heard soo many times, on because that person eats a lot they are fat. In fact I know people who look like they dont eat anything and they actually eat more than someone who is overweight.
For the first line I meant "what a general claim is directly", not "and directly." Sorry about that.
